The Great Sage caused havoc in Heaven and the Jade Emperor ordered Heavenly soldiers and generals to punish him. But no one could manage to subdue him. Then the Lord Lao Zi threw his Diamond Jade bracelet at the Monkey King, who was then preoccupied with fighting the God Erlang, and it hit him neatly on the head. Thus the Great Sage was caught.
孙猴大闹天宫，玉皇大帝降旨严惩，无奈天兵天将都对付不了他。太上老君献计说他有法对付。在孙猴和二郎神打得难解难分之际，太上老君暗中把金钢琢扔在孙猴的天灵盖上，捉住了孙猴。
The Jade Emperor wanted to execute him but failed to inflict a single wound on him by sabers, axes, fire and thunder. Then Lord Lao Zi put him into the Eight Trigrams Furnace, which is used for refining elixir, and wanted to burn him to ashes. The furnace was made up of Eight Trigrams-qian, kan, gen, zhen, xun, li, kun and dui-so he squeezed himself into the “Palace of xun,” for xun was the wind, and where there was wind there could be no fire. All that happened was that the smoke made both his eyes red.
玉皇想处死孙猴，但任凭刀砍斧劈，火烧雷击，都伤不到孙猴的一根毫毛。太上老君请令，把孙猴扔进炼金丹用的八卦炉，想用猛火把孙猴烧成灰。八卦炉是按天、水、山、震、风、火、地、泽划分的，孙猴知道其中的奥妙，进去后便钻进“巽宫”位置上。巽是风，有风无火，烧不到他，只是烟熏给了他的一双眼睛。
After the fire burning forty-nine days, the Lord Lao Zi thought the Great Sage must be ashes so he opened the furnace. At the moment, the Great Sage leapt out of the furnace with his as-you-will cudgel, knocked all soldiers down and left. From then on, he had a pair of fire eyes with golden pupils.

The Tang Priest (San zang) and his three disciples were on their way to the Western Heaven to obtain Buddhist scriptures. One day they were traveling in a high mountain. When Monkey (Wukong) saw it was cloudy and misting in the valley, he knew this mountain was bound to harbor fiends. He drew a magic circle with his cudgel on the ground to protect his master. He told Pig and Friar Sand to protect the Tang Priest and for the three of them not to leave the circle. He then went to have a look at the mountain and pick some fruit to bring back to eat.
唐僧师徒去西天取经。一日，走到一座大山中，只见天色阴沉，谷中浓雾弥漫，悟空料定必有妖怪。他用金箍棒在地上划一圈，让八戒、沙僧保护师父在圈内休息，他去探听虚实，顺便采些鲜果来充饥。
This mountain did indeed have a corpse fiend called Lady White Bone, who had been here for a thousand years. It had heard that anyone who ate a piece of the Tand Priest’s flesh will live forever, so it tried three times to capture him. The first time it changed itself into a young, beautiful girl holding a basket of food. With her charming smile, she almost succeeded in talking the master and his two disciples into coming out of the circle. Just at the last moment, Monkey came. Monkey came. Realizing that she was an evil spirit, he raised his cudgel and hit her. The fiend changed into a gust of smoke and fled. The second time the fiend turned itself into an old woman, who walked towards them leaning on a stick with a crooked handle. Monkey recognized it and struck it again. Like the first time, the fiend fled.
这座山内千年修行的白骨精，她听说吃了唐僧肉可长生不老，于是她三次设计捉拿唐僧。第一次，她变成一个美丽少女，手提一篮馒头，笑着想把师徒三人从圈内骗出，悟空赶到，举棒就打，女妖化一缕青烟跑掉。第二次，她变成老婆婆，拄一根拐杖从山后走来，悟空认出又是白骨精变的，举棒又打，白骨精故伎重演，化烟脱逃。
The third time it turned itself into an old man, sitting before a hut waiting for the Tang Priest
to come. Monkey saw through the fiend’s disguise, raised his cudgel and struck it down. The fiend this time left a piece of cloth from the cloud, saying: “ If you’re as kind as a Buddha, how can you kill? Keep Wukong with you and no scriptures will you get.” Sanzang believed the writing. He blamed Wukong for killing three people one after another, and forced him to leave. Without Monkey, Lady White Bone captured the Tang Priest easily and invited its mother to eat Sanzang’s flesh together with it. But, Wukong came just in time to save him. He killed the old fiend on the way to its daughters’, impersonated it, then got into the cave and saved the Tang Priest.
第三次变作一个老头，在一间茅屋前坐等唐僧的到来。悟空看见，上来就打，白骨精招架不住，便用计从云端扔下一黄绢，上写：佛心慈悲，切勿杀生；再留悟空，难取真经。唐僧信以为真，怪悟空连伤二命，逼悟空离开。悟空走后，白骨精顺利地捉了唐僧，在白骨精邀母亲来吃唐僧肉时，孙悟空赶到，并打死老妖，变成白骨精的母亲进洞救出了唐僧。

Though Monkey was versatile and boasted supernatural powers, Great Sage
Sun as he was called, was fooled into coming up to heaven by the Great White Planet. The Jade Emperor conferred upon Monkey the title of Protector of the Horses. When Monkey realized that his job was to look after the horses he became so angry that he returned to his Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. Upon returning, he put up a sign which declared himself “the Great Sage Equalling Heaven.” The Jade Emperor swiftly ordered two heavenly generals to command some heavenly troops to capture Monkey. Li Jing and Ne Zha served as the commanders of the heavenly troops. When they arrived at the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit, they ordered the Mighty Magic Spirit to challenge Monkey. Great Sage Sun asked the Mighty Magic Spirit to forward his message to the Jade Emperor that if he was conferred the title of “The Great Sage Equalling Heaven,” he would refrain from attacking the Heavenly Palace of the Jade Emperor.
The Mighty Magic Spirit was too headstrong to flaunt his superiority but he was bitterly defeated by Monkey. Ne Zha changed into a fighter with three heads and six arms each holding a different weapon. Just as he was charging at Great Sage Sun, Monkey also changed into three heads and six arms wielding three gold cudgels. The two were soon engaged in a heated battle. Cudgels and spears were soon engaged in a heated battle. Cudgels and spears were wielded while swords and broad swords emitted flashes of light in front of a water-covered cave at the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. The troops in either camp shouted and waved flags to express support for Great Sage Sun and Ne Zha. The sky was darkened by the asnd and stone stirred up by their bitter fight. When Monkey saw that it was hard to win the battle, he pulled out a thread of his hair and made it become an image of himself while his real body leapt behind Ne Zha for a surprise attack. Monkey wielded his cudgel and hit Ne Zha from behind. Ne Zha was forced to withdraw.
When Li Jing, also known as Heavenly King, saw that two of his generals were defeated, he sent out the signal to retreat. The Jade Emperor was thus forced to confer the title of “the Great Sage Equalling Heaven”upon Monkey.

胜，便急忙鸣金收兵。玉帝一时也没有了主意，只好按孙猴的要求，准他作了“齐天大圣”。

a tree. Then she waited for the Tang Priest and his devotees to pass by. When they saw her they saved her. Then the evil mouse spirit asked then to take her with them by telling a fabricated story designed to win their sympathy. At night they stayed in a temple. The evil spirit took Tang Priest to her Bottomless Cave using an evil wind. When the three disciples couldn't find their master they followed them to the Bottomless Cave. Mondey changed himself into an insect to go inside the cave. He saw that the evil spirit was urging his master to drink wine so he would get drunk and agree to marry her. Then Monkey changed himself into an eagle to turn the table upside down. The evil spirit trembled with fear. Then Monkey changed himself into a fly and flew into the ear of his master and said something.
Tang Priest did what he said: He invited the evil spirit to take a walk with him in the garden. There he picked a big peach and offered it to her. She was very pleased and ate the fruit right away. After a moment, her stomach was in such pain that she couldn't bear it. Just then, Monkey shouted in her stomach:“Let my master go, otherwise I'll kill you.” It turned out that the peach was changed by Monkey. As soon as Tang Priest went out of the cave, Monkey. As soon as Tang Priest went out of the cave, Monkey jumped out from the stomach of the evil spirit. Monkey, Pig and Friar Sand had a fierce fight with the evil spirit and there wsa nobody to protect the Master. Tang Priest was again taken into the cave by the evil spirit. Monkey entered the cave and did not find his master but he saw the memorial tablets for Heavenly King Li and Nezha. Monkey went to the Jade Emperor with the tablets in his hands. The Jade Emperor ordered
Heavenly King Li and Nezha to subdue the mouse spirit and get Tang Priest out of the cave. Then the master and three disciples went on their way to the West to find Buddhist scriptures.
唐僧师徒四人，来到陷空山，山上有一个耗子精，她见唐僧仪表堂堂，便想抢来成婚。她先变成一个年轻美貌的姑娘，把自己绑在树上，待唐僧师徒救起，又编出一套谎言骗得唐僧同情，让带她一同前行。夜晚，耗子精用妖风把唐僧擒到住处无底洞。悟空三人发现没有了师父，便追到无底洞，悟空变作一只小虫飞往洞中，他见女妖正给唐僧劝酒，逼唐僧与她成婚，又忙变成一只老鹰，直扑过去，掀翻桌子，女妖吓得胆颤心惊。悟空又变成小蝇，飞到唐僧耳边，低声说了几句。唐僧照计行事，请女妖来花园散步，唐僧从桃树上摘下一个大桃子递给女妖，女妖欢天喜地地吞食下去。片刻，肚子疼痛难忍，悟空在肚子里高叫：“快放我师父出去，饶你性命！”这只桃子正是悟空变的。女妖放出唐僧，刚出洞口，悟空从女妖口中跳出，悟空、八戒、沙僧大战女妖，唐僧无人保护，又被捉走。悟空二次进洞，没找到师父，却见到李天王和哪吒牌位。悟空捧牌位找玉帝，玉帝命李靖父子收服耗子精，放出唐僧。师徒四人继续西行取经。

Tang Priest and his three disciples traveled westward. One night, they arrived at the Tongtian River, which was 800kilometers wide with torrential waters. They had to put up for the night in a nearby village because they had no way to cross the river. They came to a house in which lived a man named Chen Cheng and his family. The whole family was crying. The group soon learned that in the Tongtian River there was a spirit who asked the village to send him a virgin girl and a virgin boy every year as a sacrifice. And this year was Chen Cheng's turn. Learning this, Monkey King consoled the Chens, and promised them that he and Pig would act as the boy and girl to wait for the spirit in the temple.
唐僧师徒四人，一路往西行，傍晚来到了通天河。只见河宽八百里，水势汹猛，无法渡过，只好在附近村子借宿一夜。他们来到一户叫陈澄的家中，见全家人正痛哭流涕。经询问才知道通天河有一妖怪，要村里人每年送一对童男童女给它吃，今年正好轮到陈澄家送人。悟空听了，安慰陈家人不要怕，他和八戒扮作童男童女到庙中等妖怪。
At midnight, the spirit came to the temple to reach for the girl. Pig, the pretended girl, in a hurry swirled his rake at the spirit. The spirit fled into the river. The next morning, Tang Priest and his disciples woke up and found the 800-kilometer-wide river frozen. San Zang urged his disciples to cross the river over the ice. When they reached the middle of the river, the ice cracked and the river swallowed Tang Priest who was then captured by the spirit. The three disciples ran after the spirit who knew he was no match for them and did not come out. Monkey King had to seek help from Guanyin (a Bodhis-attva). It turned out that the spirit was a big goldfish in the South Sea lotus pond. The fish escaped from the Buddha to hurt people. So the Buddha was asked to
retrieve the fish spirit. Later, the four were worrying about how to cross the river. Suddenly, there came an old turtle, who said, “Iused to live in the river. Now that you have chased away the spirit, I am back. Let me help you get across the river.” So the four jumped over the turtle’s back and the turtle took them to the other side of the river.
半夜妖怪闯进庙来，刚伸手抓女孩，扮女孩的八戒心慌，轮起钉钯就打，妖怪一溜烟跑回河中。第二天清晨，唐僧师醒来，见八百里河面冻得明镜一般，唐僧急催徒弟们踏冰过河。走到河中心，只听“咔嚓”一声，河面裂开一个大口，唐僧落到河里被妖怪捉去。三个徒弟追到河底，妖怪自知不是对手，闭门不出。悟空没办法，只好去求观音菩萨。原来这妖怪正是南海莲池中一条大金鱼，乘菩萨不备，跑出害人，于是菩萨收回这条鱼精。师徒四人正愁无法过河时，游过来一只老龟，老龟说：“我原住在河中，你们打走妖怪，我又回来了，我送你们过河吧！”于是师徒四人跳上龟背向河对岸漂去。

and mental capacities and pollessed magic abilities. With powerful magics he always had the idea of eating the meat of Sanzang, the Tang Priest (whose meat could make creatures live longer) to lengthen his life. One day while he was watching in the sky, he saw Sanzang and his disciples coming from afar. He knew that the disciples had excellent fighting skills, so he planned to capture Sanzang by making use of the priest's kindness and muddled mind, rather than use force. At a spot just ahead of where Sanzang and his group were, Red Boy turned himself into a boy of seven and hung himself on the top of a tree with his hands and feet tied with a rope and cried for help. The Tang Priest heard the boy's cries and asked Monkey to release him. Monkey, seeing that the boy was actually a demon in disguise, told his master not to bother. Sanzang got angry, and he asked Pig to bring the boy down from the tree; he ordered Monkey to carry he boy on his back. As they started to go , Red Boy jumped into mid-air, leaving behind a false Red Boy for Monkey to carry. To kidnap
Sanzang, Red Boy hurled a whirl of wind at him. Sanzang disappeared. 牛魔王和铁扇公主的孩子红孩儿，修炼得道，神通广大，为益寿延年，他一心想各异唐僧肉。一天，他正在空中了望，看见唐僧师徒远远地走来，他知道唐僧的徒弟武艺高强，硬拼怕不能取胜，于是，他想利用唐僧不辨真伪，心慈面软的特点来智取。他把自己变成七岁的孩童，用绳捆住手脚，高高地吊在树枝上喊“救人”。唐僧听到喊声，让悟空去解救。悟空认出那是妖怪变的，叫师父少管闲事。唐僧动怒，又要八戒将红孩儿救下。当唐僧让悟空背上红孩儿走时，悟空背的只是个假的，红孩儿真身早已跳到九霄云外，并刮起一阵旋风，趁机劫走了唐僧。风停后，唐僧没有了。
Monkey knew this was done by the demon and he asked Pig and Friar Sandto look after the luggage and he hurried to the Huofang Cave in the Withered Pine Valley to look for his master. A fierce battle ensued between Monkey and Red Boy. Knowing it is impossible to defeat Monkey, Red Boy Spurted three types of flames which were so powerful even the Dragon King could not put out. Monkey, knowing he could not win, jumped out of the sea of fire and went to the South Sea to ask the Goddess Guanyin for help. The goddess vanquished Red Boy and brought him to the South Sea. Monkey saved Sanzang and Sanzang and his disciples continued their journey to the West in search of Buddhist scriptures.
悟空知道是妖怪捣的鬼。他记八戒和沙和尚看好行李，自己赶忙来到枯松涧火方洞找师父。悟空和孩儿一场恶战，红孩儿斗不过悟空，便喷出龙王也不能熄灭的三味真火，悟空急忙跳出火阵，见不能取胜，便到南海请观音菩萨。菩萨降服了红孩儿，把他带回南海。悟空救出唐僧，师徒四人继续往西天取经。

The Tang Priest and his three disciples, Monkey (Wukong), Pig and Friar Sand, were heading towards the Western Heaven. Gradually they began to feel hotter and hotter in the warm air. It was very strange, because it was autumn. Later they learnt that the Fiery Mountains were just ahead of them. The mountains had a circumference of 800 li, on which not a blade of grass could grow. A young man selling cakes told them that it was not possible to cross the mountains without a special plantain fan which could only be borrowed from Princess Iron Fan. After having made arrangements for his master, Monkey left for the Plantain Cave to see Princess Iron Fan. The princess was the wife of the Bull Demon King and the Red Boy's mother.
唐僧师徒四人，一路风尘仆仆朝西行去。走着走着，渐渐觉得热气袭人，难以忍受。此进正值秋天，大家感到很奇怪。一打听才知道前方有座火焰山，方圆八百里寸草不生。又从卖糕少年嘴里听说，要想过山，只有向铁扇公主借芭蕉扇扇灭火后才能通过。司空把师父安排好，前往芭蕉洞找铁扇公主。铁扇公主是牛魔王的妻子，红孩儿之母。
Some time ago, Red Boy had tried to eat the Tang Priest and Monkey had subdued him. Hence Princess Iron Fan hated Monkey and refused to lend the fan to him. Instead she blew Monkey right out of sight with a single wave of her plantain fan. Bodhisattva Lingji heard about this and gave Monkey a Wind-Fixing Pill. Monkey came to borrow the magic fan for the second time. With the Wind-Fixing Pill in his mouth, Monkey could not be moved no matter how hard the princess waved the fan. The princess hurried back to the cave and had the doors closed tightly. However, Monkey turned himself into an insect and got into the princess' belly when she was drinking tea.
因上次红孩儿想吃唐僧肉与司空结下了冤仇，铁扇公主哪里肯借。悟空初次借扇，被铁扇公主用芭蕉扇扇得无踪无影。灵吉菩萨得知实情，给他一粒“定风丹”再去借扇。悟空二次
来借扇，公主又用扇扇他，悟空口含定风丹，一动不动。公主急忙回洞，闭门不出。悟空变作一只小虫，乘公主喝茶之际进入铁扇公主腹中。
The princess could not stand the pain, so that she agreed to lend the fan to Monkey, but she actually gave him a false one. The third time Monkey came for the fan he decided to turn himself into the Bull Demon King. He got the fan. Upon hearing of this trickery, the Bull Demon King came hurriedly chasing after Monkey. They engaged in a fierce struggle. Soon Pig and Friar Sand came to Monkey's help and forced the Bull Demon King to show his true colors. With the plantain fan, Monkey put out the fire. The master and his three disciples continued their journey to the West to fetch scriptures.
公主腹疼难忍，答应借扇，但给的是一把假扇。第三次，悟空变成牛魔王模样，骗得真扇。牛魔王到家得知真相后急忙追赶，悟空与牛魔王大战。八戒、沙僧上前助战，最后把牛魔王打得现出原形。悟空用芭蕉扇扇灭山火，师徒四人继续西行取经。

This story describes two characters from journey to the West. Inside the Country of Aolai, east of the ocean belonging to the Continent of Superior Body, there was the Mountain of Flowers and Fruit. On ist peak stood a magic stone. Through years of cultivation the stone turned into a stone monkey. After it learned how to crawl and walk it bowed to each of the four quarters. Aa its eyes moved, two beams of golden light shot towards the heavens. The Jade Emperor was alarmed. He hurriedly sent rwo subjects, Thousand-mile Eye and Windaccompanying Ear outside the Southern Gate to listen and observe. The two went out of the gate and soon reported back what they had observed, \"The creature down below is born of the essence of heaven and earth, \"remarked the Jade Emperor, now assured. \"There's nothing remarkable about him.\" Later, many things happened because of this monkey: it raised havoc in the heavens, and was subdued and asked to assist Tang Priest to fetch scriptures from the Western Heaven. This scene shows how Thousand-mile Eye and Wind-accompanying Ear observe and listen carefully outside the Southern Gate.
千里眼和顺风耳是《西游记》中的两个人物。东胜神州的傲来国中，有一座山，叫花果山。山顶有一块仙石，日久天长化作一个石猴。石猴学走学爬。拜了四方，从眼内发出两道金光，直射到天庭，惊动了玉皇大帝。玉皇大帝立即命千里眼、顺风耳天南天门观看。二将奉玉皇旨意出南天门。千里眼手搭凉棚，仔细观看，顺风耳伏耳细听，很快查明了情况，向玉帝汇报。玉皇大帝说：“原来是下方之物，他乃天地精华所生，没有什么可奇怪的。”由此，才引出了孙悟空大闹天空，以致后来收服悟空，让他帮助唐僧去西天取经的故事。此幅画，是千里眼和顺风耳出南天门后，按住云头，仔细观听的场面。

Since he was so handsome, she wanted to marry him. The mouse spirit first changeed herself into a pretty girl and then tied herself to a tree.
