What We Can Learn from Lang Ping
Lang Ping is a really cool lady who was the coach for the Chinese women's volleyball team. She led them to win the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics! That was a huge deal because China had never won the volleyball gold medal before at the Olympics. Under Coach Lang's leadership, the Chinese team beat the favorites Brazil and Serbia to take home the gold. It was an amazing underdog story!
I think there are a lot of great lessons we can all learn from Coach Lang Ping's life and her coaching philosophy. She is someone who never gave up on her dreams, worked incredibly hard, and inspired others around her to believe in themselves too. That's why she was able to lead her team to the top of the podium against all odds.
First off, Lang Ping showed crazy determination and perseverance ever since she was a young girl. She grew up in a poor family in Beijing during a tough time in China's history. As a kid, she had to do hard labor on farms and construction sites to help support her family. Can you imagine a little girl doing backbreaking work like that? I definitely couldn't! But Lang Ping
never complained or felt sorry for herself. Instead, the difficulties she faced made her develop an iron will and fighting spirit from a very young age.
Even though life was hard, Lang Ping's one passion was playing volleyball. She loved the sport and spent every spare minute practicing her skills. Sometimes she would hit a volleyball against a brick wall for hours until her hands bled! Talk about being dedicated. Lang's hard work paid off because she made it onto China's national volleyball team as a young player. She helped them win their first ever world championship in 1982. As the team's captain, her amazing spiking ability earned her the nickname the \"Iron Hammer.\"
After retiring as a player, Lang Ping faced a huge setback when she was shockingly kicked off China's national coaching staff. This could have been the end of her volleyball career and dreams. But Lang refused to give up. She spent 8 years coaching in different places around the world to get more experience. She never stopped learning and improving her coaching abilities during this time. Her perseverance was rewarded in 2013 when she was re-hired as the head coach of China's national team. Under Lang Ping's leadership as a coach, the Chinese team immediately started seeing success again. She built a
hard-working, united team with a never-say-die attitude by instilling her personal philosophies into the players. Lang always told them: \"Overcome your weakness through persistence, and turn your persistence into strength.\" She taught them to outwork their opponents, never get discouraged, and believe they could beat anyone if they gave 100% effort.
The 2016 Rio Olympics was the pinnacle of Lang Ping's coaching career. Even though China wasn't favored to medal, Lang had her team peaking at the right time through her smart strategies and motivational talks. In an emotional pre-final team meeting, Coach Lang told her players: \"The gold medal has been stuck in my heart, like a pearl embedded in a clam shell. I have pursued it, single-mindedly, in the face of any difficulties or setbacks. Now, I want you to pull out that pearl with me.\" Inspired by their coach's words, the Chinese team went out and beat Serbia for the gold in a nail-biting final!
So those are some of the amazing things Lang Ping was able to accomplish through her drive, resilience, and leadership abilities. But I think the most important thing we can all learn from her is to never stop chasing your dreams no matter how impossible they may seem. Just like Lang overcame all the
obstacles in her path through sheer willpower and hard work, we need to have that same mindset in our own lives.
It's easy to get discouraged when you're working really hard at something but not seeing results right away. You might feel like giving up. But if you stay committed and keep pushing forward like Lang Ping did, eventually you'll break through and achieve great things. Her life shows that anything is possible if you combine your passion and talents with tireless effort over a long period of time.
For student athletes like me, I think Lang Ping should be a huge role model. We can learn so much from how she approached sports and life with such an intense, hard-working spirit. Even if you're not the most naturally gifted player, you can make up for it through your dedication, perseverance, and willpower - just like Lang did. If you out-work and out-hustle everyone else, you'll find a way to get better and accomplish your goals over time.
But Lang Ping's lessons about persistence and chasing your dreams can apply to anything, not just sports. Maybe you really want to get good grades so you can go to a great college someday. Or you're determined to master playing an instrument or another skill. If you stay focused and put in the hard work each
day, no matter how difficult it seems, you'll eventually get there. Just don't ever give up!
I'm sure Lang Ping faced tons of people who doubted or underestimated her along the way. But she never listened to the naysayers and stuck to her convictions no matter what anyone said. We could all learn from having that same unwavering belief in ourselves. If you truly have faith that you can achieve something and are willing to outwork everyone else for it, you'll prove the doubters wrong in the end.
Ultimately, I think the biggest reason Lang Ping was able to accomplish so much is because she never stopped being a student and learning from her setbacks. Any time she faced adversity or failure, she used it as motivation to work harder and find ways to improve. She stayed hungry and humble with a growth mindset throughout her whole career.
So in life, we're all going to face obstacles and failures from time to time - that's just inevitable. The key is to have Lang Ping's attitude and use those setbacks as fuel to get better instead of letting them discourage you. Every failure is an opportunity to pause, reflect on what went wrong, and figure out how you can bounce back stronger than before. If you stay determined and
keep attacking your weaknesses with hard work, you'll keep leveling up over time.
In conclusion, Lang Ping is such an inspirational figure who embodied the qualities of passion, perseverance, hard work, resilience and a willingness to always keep learning and
improving herself. By applying those same principles to our own lives and never giving up on our dreams, we can all go on to make huge achievements just like Coach Lang did. Her story proves that anything is possible if you stay committed and put in the work over the long run. Let's all follow Lang Ping's example and chase our wildest ambitions with the heart of a true champion!
