We plan to head out to the Mission Bay this Sunday for a beach picnic. You can buy fresh oysters at the Mission Bay Oysters Company and you just need to pay $6 to $10 for each dozen, depending on the size. It's on Sunday,June 30.

We will meet at the Student Center at 9:00 a.m.and all go together. The driving time is one and a half to two hours, and the time of return is still uncertain.Come and join us in what must now be the 4th or 5th such trip for the Outing Club.

The oyster farm has a small picnic area with chairs and barbecue grills(烧烤架).Bring some briquettes(煤球) if you would like to grill.Except for oysters, oysters and oysters, little is available there,so please bring your own food and drinks. And of course,if you have any special oyster recipes, bring them, make them and share them!

The weather forecast says it's going to be sunny and around 26℃ this weekend. My telephone number is 4088963228.Please feel free to call me if you have any questions.Remember to finish your homework before we leave for the picnic.

There is an English saying: “Laughter is the best medicine.” Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. Now,however, doctors have begun to look into laughter and the effects it has on the human body. They have found that laughter really can improve people's health.

Tests were carried out to study the effects of laughter on the body.People watched funny films while doctors checked their heart, blood pressure, breathing and muscles. It was found that laughter has similar effects to physical exercises. It increases blood pressure, the heart beating and breathing. It also works several groups of muscles in the face, the stomach, and even the feet.If laughter exercises the body,it must be beneficial.

Other tests have shown that laughter appears to be able to reduce the effect of pain on the body.In one experiment doctors produced pain in groups of students who listened to different radio programs. The group that tolerated the pain for the longest time was the groups which listened to a funny program. The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemicals in the brain which diminish both stress and pain. As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics,in which they help to improve their patients' condition by encouraging them to laugh. They have found that even if their patients do not really feel like laughing, making them smile is enough to produce beneficial effects similar to those who are caused by laughter.

5.The main idea of the passage is . A.laughter and physical exercises have similar effects B.smile can produce the same effects as laughter

6.The underlined word “diminish” is similar to . A.test C.reduce

B.stop D.increase

根据画线词前的“The reason why laughter can reduce pain seems to be that it helps to produce a kind of chemicals in the brain which”可知,微笑能够减轻痛苦的原因是它能够帮助阻碍大脑中产生一种减轻压力和痛苦的化学物质,由此可知画线词词义为“减轻、减少”,故C项正确。]

7.Doctors hold laughter clinics . A.to give better condition to their patients B.in order to improve patients' health C.to make patients smile all the time

D.to prove smile and laughter have the same effect

根据最后一段中的“As a result of these discoveries, some doctors in the United States now hold laughter clinics,in which they help to improve their patients' condition by encouraging them to laugh.”

C

Travel is fun and exciting, but it's not if you get sick. You may think,“Not me,I won't get sick on my vacation.”But for many people, that is what happens.

A vacation is supposed to be a time for relaxing. But very often it is not.“What can I do when I am a tourist?”This is what we should often think about.Usually

there are so many places to visit:museums, shops, parks and churches. You may spend most days walking around these places. This can be very tiring.Your feet may hurt. And you may have a terrible headache after a few hours. If this is what you feel, you should take a rest.Don't ask your body to do too much.A tired body means a weak body. And a weak body can make you get sick easily.Just sit down for a few hours in a nice spot.In good weather, look for a quiet park bench.Or you can rest at a café.You can learn a lot by watching people when you have a rest.

Sleep is also important. If you want to stay healthy you need enough sleep. You may have trouble sleeping at night when you travel.Your hotel room may be noisy,or the bed may be uncomfortable. If that is true, don't be afraid to change rooms or hotels. You may not get enough sleep for another reason. You may want to stay out late at night. In many cities the night life can be very exciting. Then you should plan to sleep for an hour during the day. That extra hour can make a big difference.

Finally,if you want to stay healthy, you must eat well. That means eating the right kinds of foods.Your body needs fresh fruit and vegetables, and some meat, milk or cheese. When you are in a new country you may want to try new foods but you need to be careful about how much you eat.Lots of rich food is not very good for you.

How a doctor in a TV play survived

a brain tumor in real life

It's one thing to play a doctor on TV.It's another to become a patient in real life. That's exactly what happened to actress Kate Walsh, who played a doctor in one of the ABC dramas. She began noticing small changes in her balance and coordination(协调) along with extreme tiredness in early 2015. “I knew something was wrong,” says Walsh,“I had just finished a big show and worked crazily,70 to 80 hours a week,so it wasn't uncommon for me to be totally wiped out.”

But this tiredness was beyond anything Walsh had ever experienced.“I'd drink five cups of coffee and still feel sleepy,” she says.“So I slowed down my workout and did more gentle exercise, but my balance was off—the right side of my body was weaker.” She also began noticing that, while driving, she'd turn to the right and she was getting forgetful. She made an appointment with a doctor in Los Angeles who,in June, ordered an MRI.The words “brain tumor” were never in her thoughts—until her doctor explained the results of the MRI.Three days later, she had emergency brain surgery that revealed she had a benign(良性的) tumor on the left of her brain that was over five centimeters, the size of a small lemon.Thankfully, the medical team was able to remove the tumor entirely.

Walsh spent the summer of 2015 in recovery. But now she's committed to helping others be active in taking care of their health. She is working with Cigna alongside America's favorite TV doctors in an ad campaign aimed at encouraging people to get their annual checkups.

“With this campaign, the idea is that you shouldn't wait until you have health problems,” she says.“If you feel off, trust your sense. One big message of this ad campaign is to think about preventive care before you have a health issue.”

注意:

1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

Paragraph 1:

Walsh admits that she was never one to get a routine annual physical. Paragraph 2:

The summer of 2015 taught Walsh other life lessons. Paragraph 1:

Walsh admits that she was never one to get a routine annual physical. After the operation, she said she would change this.“I would go to my doctor every year to do physical checkups,” she said.“We hope people will follow the ad campaign, which stresses the importance of doing annual checkups.” She said her experience proved that it is risky if you miss the physical. Thus, people will not find they have developed health problems. She advised people never to wait until it is too late.

Paragraph 2:

The summer of 2015 taught Walsh other life lessons. She started to slow down, spending more time with her family and friends. She kept a slow pace in her recovery.Meanwhile, she reconsidered her work and interest.“I looked carefully at my life and determined what my goal is and what my habit should be.Everything should have a new start,” she said, adding that she would enjoy life,in which she should find pleasure and relaxation.
