A process for the preparation of a ketone of the general formula I seediagramm : EP0034804,P6,F1 where n is 1, 2, 3 or 4, by catalytically hydrogenating acorresponding mono-unsaturated or poly-unsaturated ketone over a palladium-containing catalyst, wherein the catalytic hydrogenation is carried out over a catalystwhich contains from 0.05 to 5 % by weight of palladium on aluminium oxide as the carrier.
