The United Kingdom has approximately 3000-year-old history, consequently, having its own culture, custom and language. Britain went through from steady feudal dynasty to the empire on which the sun never sets, eventually becoming one of the most important countries all over the world. What a great history change that we cannot believe even today! However, just due to her rugged development makes this old as well as modern country full of the breath of mystery. As we all known, England is well-known for its prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Oxford University has over 800 years old and so does Cambridge University. All of these make this ancient country more attractive to appeal people to visit!

Moreover, England is an island which is mostly made of hills and has oceanic climate , whose environment is pretty charming. As far as I am concerned, if you were a person who is the first time arriving at this island country, the first and deepest impression England would give you is everywhere covered by the color of green, tall and dense woods and wide grassland, what makes the air really fresh to breathe! English living circumstance is particularly graceful too. Their houses always have two or three floors with beautiful and charming flower garden surrounded by green thickets. What I have to say is that they have very strong awareness of protecting the environment. They divide the trash into different places.

For instance, usually the majority of residents have three different color dustbin for different usages, and the government will cope with the garbage at regular intervals. Their hygienic habits are surely excellent! In English, it is absolutely difficult for people to see the rubbish or pieces of papers threw about. In public, there is no doubt that everyone will use tissue to cover their mouth for coughing or sneezing. Especially, what deserves us to talk about is English smoking ban and smoking restriction. According to English laws, it forbids people to smoke everywhere in school including all kinds of indoors, otherwise, people will be punished by law. What’s more, government also appeal people to smoking less or not by printing shocking and frightening pictures and words to disseminate the harm of smoking.

In addition, the United Kingdom is a constitutional monarchy country under the rule of law, everything executes in accordance with law. Only if you don’t go beyond the rules of law can you enjoy enormous freedom. Englishmen have strong awareness of law, they pay much attention to protecting the circumstance and abide by traffic laws and public order. As a consequence, English public security is about good. The UK also especially lays emphasis on the protection of intellectual property, the protection of juveniles as well as the protection of cultural relics and historic sites.

As far as the national traits, Englishmen are born with conservation

so that they fairly respect others, therefore, they reserve quiet a number of ancient buildings, cultural relics and a variety of museums. As a result, it has glorious and long history. One of the most impressive cities for me is the capital of the UK, London. London is a city which is famous in the whole world! It is the centre of finance, culture, art and education and the host city of the World Summer Olympic Games in 2012. She has a long history which has so many scenic spots and historic sites, world-class museums, art museums and outstanding buildings, which attracts a mass of tourists from home and abroad to visit Britain. She has colorful culture and education life and numerous world-famous universities. The advanced transportation makes subways, trains and buses connected into a net spreading all over the every corner of the city. English big cities, especially London, enjoy a widespread reputation for their beauty, charm and the good protection of parks. For example, Hyde Park, St. James’s Park and Green Park, these royal London gardens, are on behalf of highest level of European garden art. Not only that we can see beautiful designed and well-protected gardens for public entertainment and relaxation.

Englishmen’s gentility absolutely deserves its reputation! British noble obsession of hierarchy is quiet serious and it has lots of unnecessary and overelaborate formalities. The majority of English gentlemen are the people who have careers. And furthermore, gentlemen

seem like more to communicate with gentlemen, just as a saying goes＂Birds of a feather flock together＂, so that family background and education always become the determinant of a person whether can turn into a gentleman. What most impressive things for me: In Britain, while you are walking on the busy streets, you almost cannot hear the sound of cars’ trumpet, drivers usually do not honk the horn. And if pedestrians want to cross the road, they will stop and let you go first, full of gentility. Englishmen also count on their own children’s cultivation, they make their kids arrange their own businesses when kids are very little and response themselves, having strong awareness of independence, the children who will go to college always make a living by themselves for tuition. One the contrary, in China, children don’t have the chance to escape from the parents’ arrangement, it is fairly difficult for them to get mature through do many social practice and speciality cultivation. Giving children a rather open space and focusing on the cultivation of their human behavior and social responsibility is the demanding and hope of Englishmen for the next generation.

Last but not least, there is a long way for us, our county, to go. There is a common proverb,＂We should learn from other’s strong points to offset our weakness.＂There are so many things for us to learn from the UK, because we still in the primary stage of socialism, national capabilities are not strong enough, not all of the people are well-off, our

construction needs scientific program, we should have long-term insight and lay emphasis on quality. In order to improve citizen quality, we should sufficiently realize the importance of improving citizen quality. Everything starts with little things, starts from ourselves, starts from our sides, starts from children. At the meantime, we should avoid the shady face of Britain, like the gap between the rich and the poor, the phenomenon of women smoker, unsuitable diet leading to obesity, some bad juveniles and so on. In the end, I’m with the view that the UK is a brilliant country for us to learn more than its shady aspect. And that is the reason why Britain is one of world powers. So that is the UK in my eyes!
