There are many techniques you can use to improve your memory. Some of them are introduced here. First and foremost, you need to stimulate your memory all the time.To put it simply, you should use your memory as much as possible. It is especially important to try to learn something new.If you work in an office, learn to dance;if you are a dancer, learn to deal with a computer;if you work with sales, learn to play chess;if you are a programmer, learn to paint. These added activities stimulate the brain so that it continues to function.
Older people need to pay attention to things they are dealing with.Don't try to memorize everything that catches your attention;focus on what you consider important;for example, you can take any object such as a pen and concentrate on it.Think about its various characteristics:its material, its function, its colour, and so on.Don't allow any other thought to occupy your mind while you are concentrating on that pen.
Another method that can be used is to relax. It is impossible to remember things if you are tense or nervous. So try holding your breath for ten seconds, and then release it slowly.
Association is also a powerful tool to develop your memory.For example,if you cannot remember a person's name,you can think about a special feature of his face and then link it with his name. 答案 1.B 2.C 3.A 4.B 5.C 6.A 7.B 8.C 9.C 10.B 11.B 12.A 13.C 14.A 15.B 16.C 17.A 18.A 19.C 20.A

Traditional rubbish collection is dirty,smelly,labor-intensive,and rubbish can pile up in basements
or wooden bins. This new system does away with all that and with lots of expensive bin lorries. “Nobody sees anything happening, there's no bins, there's no trucks on street, there's no boxes, there is no kids on the bikes trying to fight with dust cars going up on the street. It's safe,it's clean, and it's healthy for everybody.”
This is how it works:you sort your rubbish into special containers in your kitchen, then take the bags to one of these. They drop down into the building's basement.Twice a day,a powerful vacuum sucks them away to a collection centre down a single pipe.First, the food waste, then general rubbish, then stuff for recycling, like paper and cans.
In the past thirty years, the system's been equipped around the world, from Stockholm to Barcelona,Disneyland to Dubai, but never in the UK.One problem:it's expensive.Local councils don't pay the cost of equipment. The developer here next to Wembley Stadium, says it makes sense partly because this development is the size of a small town.
“We own the entire site, the 85 acres and all the roads. And that's the fundamental that we control the public ground. And we take a benefit of that because our public ground's going to be great as a consequence of this system.”
“And this is where it ends up,the central collection centre. That great big green pipe is the outlet from the underground network and laid in all the roads around here. These great big things are essentially enormous intensive vacuum cleaner that will swirl(使旋转)the rubbish around, the air, goes off to the top.The waste goes down to the bottom and then it is shifted to one of these containers where it can be put on to a lorry and taken away.”Environmentally,it's claimed the systems are great improvement, but it has a challenge.

The concept of solar power satellites,or SPS,first put forward in the 1960s,is still not widely known by the general public. For example at many public exhibitions about Energy,SPS is not even mentioned. This is mainly because very little funding has been spent on SPS research to date—about 1/1000 of 1% of the approximately US $1 trillion that governments have spent subsidizing(补助)the development of nuclear power over the past 50 years.
There are critics who claim that SPS is unrealistic—because launch costs are much too high today;or because microwave beams will set fire to cities;or because it's too futuristic(未来的).So why do we believe that it is important to continue to do research on SPS?The reason is very simple. Humans are going to need enormous amounts of electric power in coming decades.Within 50 years the world population is expected to double, while economic growth will continue around the world, especially in the poorer countries. But existing energy sources already face serious problems. They're limited;they're polluting;they're dangerous. So 50 years from now,100 years from now, where is our power going to come from?Nobody knows. And so we believe that new large-scale possibilities should be studied further.
We must remember that humans have some choice concerning our future. To some extent we can choose the direction in which our civilization develops. And choices that are made in the coming decades—such as the energy sources that we will or will not use—will have major,long-term influence on human life on Earth. We believe that, provided that research continues to show that SPS
is environmentally and economically attractive,SPS will open the door to a much more attractive future for human civilization than any groundbased energy source;and one that the public will support;and that young people will find challenging and exciting.Furthermore energy from SPS can be readily used in developing countries,as the SPS 2000 project will demonstrate, thereby aiding economic development worldwide. In addition,by creating large commercial revenues(税收)for space engineering,SPS will open the frontier of space to economic development, thereby creating a limitless new field for growth of the world economy.

C.The importance of controlling the world population. D.The importance of exploring new energy sources.
答案 D [第3段论述了我们人类今后需要更多的能源,而世界人口在增长,贫穷国家需要发展,现有能源面临严重问题,所以我们要考虑研究探索其他的新能源。因此D项为最佳答
案。]

The world is not coming to an end on December 21,2012,the US space agency insisted Monday in a rare campaign to dispel widespread rumors fueled by the Internet and a new Hollywood movie. The latest big screen offering from Sony Picture,2012,arrives in theaters on Friday, with a 200-million-dollar production about the end of the world supposedly based on myths(虚构的故事)backed by the Mayan calendar. It is claimed that the end of time will come as a Planet X—or Nibiru—heads toward or collides with the Earth.
Some websites accuse NASA of hiding the truth on the planet's existence, but the US space agency denounced such stories as an “Internet hoax(恶作剧)”.“There is no factual basis for these claims,”NASA said in a question-and-answer posting on its website.“If such a collision were real, astronomers would have been tracking it for at least the past decade, and it would be visible by now to the naked eye.Obviously,it does not exist.Credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012,”it insisted.“After all,our planet has been getting along just well for more than four billion years,”added NASA.
There is another planet,Eris, floating in space. But the small planet similar to Pluto will remain safely fixed in the outer solar system and it can come no closer than four billion miles to the Earth, according to NASA.
Initial theories set the disaster for May 2003,but when nothing happened the date was moved forward to the winter in 2012 to coincide with the end of a cycle of the ancient Mayan calendar. NASA insisted the Mayan calendar in fact does not end on December 21,2012,as another period begins immediately afterward.
And even if the planets were to line up as some have forecast, the effect on our planet would be “negligible”,NASA said.
“And while comets and asteroids(小行星)have always hit the Earth, big hits are very rare,”NASA noted. The last major impact was believed to be 65 million years ago, resulting in the end of dinosaurs.
“We have already determined that there are no threatening asteroids as large as the one that killed the dinosaurs,”the space agency said.

第一处 注意watch TV是指看电视节目内容,并不是看电视机,所以这里不能使用名词的复数形式。
第二处 本句的时间状语a few years ago说明这里要使用的是一般过去时。
第三处 注意not a little=very,而not a bit应为“一点也没有”,结合语境,作者应该是很累。
a lot of修饰名词,而a lot修饰动词。
第九处 one another表示的是彼此之间的关系,而one after another表示“一个接一个”,显然不合语境。
第十处 这里说的是大家现在打发时间的方法,是针对the family的任何一个成员来说的。

Last week we had a discussion about whether we still need Confucian thought in modern society.About 60% of the students in my class think it necessary to study Confucian thought. For one thing, more and more people in different countries are bursting to study it,showing that it is still treasured in the world. For another,Confucian thought is believed to have made great contributions to the peace of human beings.
But every coin has two sides.About 40% of the students in my class insist Confucian thought is outdated. In a way it limits the development of the world.
Different people have different opinions.I think Confucian thought still has some positive effects on our society.
