Non-play Childhood

According to the Wikipedia, Childhood is the age span ranging from birth to adolescence. It is usually a mixture of happiness, wonder, and energy. Play is essential to children as it allows them to create and explore the world, conquering their fears. Play has been recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights as a right of every child. My point is that although play is significant to a child’s development, without play, one can still live well. I have a non-play childhood. For many years, the only accompany of mine is the television,. Maybe it sounds much wired. How can it be possible for a child to grow up without playing with others? Well, it just the case for me. Much funnier, I benefit from non-play childhood and enjoyed a meaningful childhood.

When I was young, my parents were always busy with works. Luckily, there is a TV. Every day I would sit on the sofa, watching cartoons or soap operas. Gradually I felt in love with TV. I watch various TV programs, from talk shows to news reports. I was grateful for my parents’ no limit to my television watching. Although I can’t get enough exercise without play, I have my brain trained.

Yes, TV will freeze our speech and action during the time we are watching television. But it will not prevent us from thinking. When I watch TV, I try to understand the complicated relationships between people. The great treasure that TV endows me is the ability of contemplation. I’m used to thinking about the relationship between people, the psychological aspects and the truth behind stories. Even now I like pondering over by myself in a quiet place.

Does play really mean so much to a child’s development? Look at those boys: Hua Tuo, his father died at his seven, since then he had to support his family as his elder brother was banished by government. After not a long time, his mother died of an incurable disease, which made him decide to become a doctor, helping those who were in need. He had no time playing with others. All he would do was to find prescriptions for different illnesses. Finally, he realized his dream and became a famous doctor. And Tong Dawei, the famous actor, also lived a rough childhood. When he was six, his father had an accident and became a vegetative patient. It’s terrible for a little boy. He didn’t lose confidence; instead, he tried hard to support his family. Maybe this can explain why he enters the entertainment circles, the quickest way to make a living.

Well, you can see, without play, one can still grow up. Without play, one can still make achievements. Play does not determiner you life. I enjoy my non-play childhood. It provides me the opportunity of thinking my life and future, enables me to understand the relationships between people and helps me to learn how to deal with various situations I will encounter in my future. In a word, it makes me to know the world in advance.
