Do manners still matter

Good manners make men beautiful

Good manners are like diamond rings which are not easily acquired but they make people beautiful.

However, nowadays people don't attach much importance to their manners as we used to do. Centuries before when science was not very much developed, a man with good manners was also believed well educated. In modern society, one's knowledge sometimes takes the place of one's manners, but good manners still help men to build the relationship with others and gain respect. In some ways we can say that knowledge makes us useful as well as good manners make us look beautiful.

There are many kinds of good manners. Some are simply obeying rules such as standing on the right side of an escalator, letting the

passengers get off first and queuing up at the counter. Others include smiling at others and giving a wave or nod of appreciation when others lend us a hand. Unnecessary as it does, good manners may sometimes cause us some trivial trouble, but it does more good to others and most importantly makes the society work more smoothly. Moreover, it shows our respect to people around us when we do so. Both these two kinds of good behaviors show our kindness and spirit of helping others, which makes manners matter so much.

Always keeping good manners is not easy, but we should make efforts to think of others more often and be a beautiful person with good manners all the same!
