Unit 7 The Western Culture

教材分析:本节课是第七单元的第一课时,让学生对本单元的内容有一个大致的了解,并拓展视野。本单元的中心课题是西方文化。在本节课中,教材从不同的几个方面让学生了解西方的文化,如:西方节日文化,语言文化以及音乐等。

教学背景:西方文化与学生的生活离的很远又很近。学生对西方的文化往往都是一知半解,知道有这个节日,但不知道怎么说也不知道是什么时候;完全不了解英语语言文化。但是这些对学生英语的学习又是很有必要的。所以通过本课的学习,目的在于让学生能够对西方文化中的某些方面提起兴趣并有一个大致的了解。

教学目标:

1、 知识目标:通过展示图片与讲解让学生能够大致了解美国等国家的节日文化。通过对英语俗语与中文的连线练习,扩展学生的语言知识结构,并让学生能对俗语感兴趣,了解西方语言文化。

2、 能力目标:通过对听力材料的听、读、理解,让学生能够在听对话的时候抓住对话重点得出答案。

3、 情感教育目标:通过对母亲节与父亲节的师生互动,对学生进行孝敬父母的德育教育。

教学重点:第一课时比较注重学生对英语听力的训练。所以本节课的重点就在于听力部分。通过学生对听力材料的听、读、理解,让学生学会听,在听的同时抓住关键点得出

答案。

教学难点:本节课的难点在美国俗语的理解。美国俗语难就难在很难根据字面意思猜出真正的意思。所以在处理本节课的教学难点时,我采用连线的方式,给出中文意思,降低教学难度。

教学方法:互动教学法、任务教学法

Teaching aims:

1. Knowledge aim: let Ss have a general idea of western culture, such as festivals, language, and music.

2. Ability aim: Enable the Ss catch the point in dialogues and get the real meaning.

3. Normal aim: enable Ss love their parents more when we talk about Mothers’ Day and Fathers’ Day.

Teaching important points: Listen and choose the right answer

Teaching difficult points: Listen and imitate

Teaching methods: interactive teaching method and task- based teaching method

Teaching aids: CAI

Teaching procedures:

Step 1 Lead in

T plays the record and let Ss enjoy a song: Jingle bells

Then T asks Ss: When do we sing the song?

S: on Christmas Day.

T: Is it a western festival or eastern festival?

S: western festival.

T: Today, we are going to talk about western culture including western festival.

Step 2.Western festival

T asks Ss: Besides Christmas day, what other western festivals do you know?

Ss give their answers: fathers’ day, mothers’ day, April Fool’s Day and Valentine’s day (maybe in Chinese)

T shows some pictures of these festivals, and asks the time of these festivals.

T: Besides these festivals, there are some important festivals in western countries, especially in America, for example, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Easter.

T introduces the customs of these festivals. Then T asks Ss to do the matching.

Step 3 American country music

T: since you did a good job, let’s enjoy another song.

(T plays the music)

T: Do you like the song? There are many kinds of music, what kind of music do you know?

Ss say: pop music, classical music and so on.

T: And American country music. What do you know about country music?

(Ss know little about country music.)

T: Let’s look at the passage on Page 96, there are some important words in red, let’s read them together.

(T reads the words with Ss.)

T: Can you fill in blanks with these words by yourselves?

Ss do the exercise by themselves in 3mins. (Maybe it is too difficult to do it.)

T: Is it too difficult to you? Let me give you a hand.

T plays the record, and Ss listen to the record and finish the exercise.

T checks the answer with Ss.

T: good job! Well done!

Step 4 listen and choose the right answer (language culture)

T: Culture has lots of aspects, festivals, music and so on. Can you tell me some other aspects of culture?

Ss think it over, and tell their opinion.

T: As an aspect of culture, language plays an important part in it. As Chinese, English-speaking people sometimes don’t tell their idea directly. You should learn to get the point in their conversation, for example, the first one on page 95.

T plays the record. Ss listen to it and do the exercise 1.

Then T check the answer with Ss giving them the conversation.

T plays the record and Ss do the rest of the exercises.

Step 5 matching and choose

1. T: In English, there is much slang. They are short but vivid.

T show some slang on the screen.

T: Do you know what they’re meaning?

T gives Ss the Chinese meanings in mixed order. Ss discuss in pairs or groups.

T ask some Ss to tell their answer, and check.

2. T: These phrases are easy. Here are some sentences. Can you guess their real meaning?

T shows the sentences and choices on screen.

T asks some Ss to choose.

Step 6 explore

T shows pictures on screen.

T: Besides festivals, music, language, we can also find there are many things coming from western countries.

Time magazine: media culture.

Hamburger: fast food

Disneyland: entertainment.

Titanic: media culture.

Step 7 homework

1. 1Remember the sayings we’ve learned as many as possible.

2. Look up the dictionary, and find out how to say “隔墙有耳”、 “英雄所见略同”、“拆东墙补西墙”、“不打不成交”、“活到老学到老” in English.

3. Try to look for more aspects about western culture in other ways.
