I thought Sam Rockwell's character was not as developed as it could have been. You knew he was a con artist, you knew he \"acted\" concerned for Roy's character, but that's all. Nicholas Cage plays Roy, an obsessive compulsive con artist who teams up with his Partner Fran (Sam Rockwell) to con people out of their money. They mostly go after old people who are so nave they pretty much GIVE their money without asking any questions. Roy can't stand being outdoors and can't stand unorganized dirty rooms as he makes people take off their shoes before entering his house. He has problems keeping the pills that help him deal with his disorders. When he does not take those pills, his ticks, and behavior gets even worse. There is a scene in the movie after he discovers he does not have his pills he cleans his apartment for what seems like hours on end from top to bottom. He cleans every square inch, and even uses a toothbrush to clean small areas that some people would not even bother cleansing. Roy discovers he has a 14 year old daughter named Angela from a relationship he ended years before.
When he ended this relationship she the woman was pregnant with his child. Angela wants to get to know her father. They begin to form a relationship that starts off awkward, but eventually turns affectionate. Angela begs her father to teach her how to con, and he agrees. Yet after he shows her the ropes he makes her return the money. Okay nice turn, but again hypocritical being he never returned money to any of the elderly people he conned.
One con goes horribly wrong, and their lives are threatened by a con they tried to bilk. An interesting twist at the end turns everything around and things which appear to be true, suddenly are not true after all. Before the movie ends the con gets conned, and he tries to rebuild his life. The movie had potential, but it just loses in parts before it builds up again. Nicholas having germphobia and agoraphobia was an interesting touch. I thought watching him be compulsive would be annoying, but it was very intriguing. Sheila Kelley's character, the grocery
check-out clerk, had such a limited role she might as well not have been there. I thought Alison Lohman played her role well. She had me convinced she was a young 14 year old teenager with her youthful appearance. The movie is not bad, I just did not like the slow pace of the movie. 一根火柴引发的思考:

接下来应该感谢的是该片的导演里德利.斯科特,当年他所拍的《角斗士》,就使我牢牢记住了这个名字,而后他所拍的《黑鹰降落》,也算是比较不错的作品,这个黄色头发细长脸颊的老头,非常善于控制影片的节奏,以及把各种复杂元素拼凑在一起,以表现出人物性格.在火柴男人这部戏里,他在开始给予观众的是一种平淡,生活化的感觉,,色调透露着些许灰色.影片中间父女两人在一起的时候,又有着某种家庭化,温馨的细
微感情渲染,到了最后骗局失败以及另一个骗局的诞生,里面却又夹杂了大量紧张刺激的元素,一直到了影片的末尾,在店里Roy和Angela又偶然相遇,缓慢的镜头推移近乎白描的完成了一种无法说清楚的味道.至此,给观众的感觉是音乐已了,余音却还在绕梁.里德利.斯科特用这样一部电影,奠定了他在好莱坞一线导演的地位.
当然,一部电影真正的灵魂是谁,在我看来,还是演员,好的剧本给予了好的身体,好的导演给予了这个身体规范的行为模式,而真正能让这个身体活起来,则是需要好的演员给予他灌注灵魂-----------火柴男人里真正的灵魂就是尼古拉斯.凯奇.
眼皮不停的猛眨,走路略微驼背,直面刺眼的阳光就惶恐不安甚至近乎崩溃,一紧张或生气就\"啊啊\"的叫喊,但在行骗时却又挥洒自如,尼古拉斯.凯奇把这个名叫Roy的角色深深的打上了他凯奇的印记,贴上了谁也撕不去的标签---只此一家,别无分号!
记得当年我和朋友在看这部电影的时候,我的朋友甚至一度认为这个演员演的就是他自己,怀疑他在现实生活里也不太正常,当我对他介绍说这是美国现今为
数不多的一流演技派一份子时,他就决定恶补凯奇以前的影片.
而对于影片里的Roy来说,,最终这个视骗为艺术的\"精神病\"被他最爱的两个人骗走了他的\"全部\"----以前的他所谓的全部,可结局呢?
影片的最后,看着事业略有成就的Roy微笑的抱着已经怀孕的妻子,你会发现,其实此生唯一的这次被骗对于Roy来说,是件好事,甚至可以称之为\"重生\也许,这就是被骗的最高境界.
Roy (Nicolas Cage) has some problems. \"artist\" part. He views his job as a beauty, a sort of majestic way of expressing himself, but not really, that's a lie, it's just something that makes him sleep better at night.
He hates his job because it makes him feel dirty. It's not fun ripping off old people or fat people, but he is a high school drop out, how else can he get a decent paying job?
His partner, Frank Mercer (Sam Rockwell), is a bit more at ease than Roy. He doesn't seem to mind his job all that much. Roy, on the other hand, is turning into a complete nut, and after going to a recommended psychiatrist, he musters up the courage to confront his 14-year-old daughter, Angela (Alison Lohman), who is eager to escape her controlling mother and check out her long-lost big pop.
The film has a lot of different stories going on -- the worry-wart who learns to put aside his nervous ticks,
the long-lost father who reunites with his daughter, and the con artist who tries to give it up for a normal life. They all succeed as a story, but the film's only flaw is its wandering, which goes on far too long.
Who cares (and I mean that as a statement, not a question). The film is one of the great
entertainments of the year. It has twists, turns, and a big streak of enjoyability running through it.
Nicolas Cage is on a winning streak. First 2002's Oscar-winning \"Adaptation,\" now this (rumored to be entered into the Oscar race for 2004). Who would'athunk it?
Sam Rockwell (\"Confessions of a Dangerous Mind\") continues to impress, while Alison Lohman (a 20-something actress playing a teenager) shines and convincingly portrays exactly what the character needs.
Ridley Scott (\"Alien\"), the infamous British director, uses some great camera techniques here -- filmed in a blue shade with lots of different camera flashes, he subtly forces the audience into Roy's head, especially during sequences when Roy is having little breakdowns and the people and objects around him start moving at warp-speed.
I'll admit that I'm a big fan of con man movies because I find them amusing. But \"Matchstick Men\" is not really a con man movie -- it's a movie about a con man who has to cope with his job and private life. And a movie about a con man who finds he has a daughter. And a con man who gets conned. It's all enjoyable, and though the film is long, I never felt very bored by it at all -- it sustained my interest throughout its running time. That's rarer and rarer nowadays.

就在罗伊决定争取安吉拉的抚养权并永远快乐的生活在一起的时候,胖子找上门来,混乱之中安吉拉杀死了胖男人,罗伊让弗兰克带着安吉拉远走高飞,自己留下来承担所有的责任。 罗伊在回到家中准备处理尸体时,忽然受到袭击,转醒发现自己躺在医院之中,一旁的警察追问他弗兰克与安吉拉的下落。 在罗伊要求下,警察叫来了他的医生。罗伊悄声告诉了医生他的保险柜密码,那里面是罗伊全部的资产,罗伊请求医生转告安吉拉。
如果电影在此终结,我以为不过就是一场演绎父爱的影片,情节饱满,人物性格也到位,尼古拉斯·凯奇把罗伊的某些神经质的举动捕捉的四平八稳,虽然没有雨人中达斯汀·霍夫曼那般的“病入膏肓”,但因两者在性格上的差异,完全可以用一个“外向的精神强迫”与一个 “沉默的智障”来加以区分了。后者带给我们的内向的张力,前者却完全是一份开放的戏剧效果。
我以为就是这样了,虽然距离结束还有将近半小时的时间,我甚至在想着出狱后的罗伊与安吉拉的幸福生活,即使是与前妻破镜重圆那也是在情理之中。
不过斯科特可不是这么想。于是我只能眼睁睁的看着两只即将达到团圆彼岸的脚嘎然停住,转弯,慢悠悠的晃进了旁边的乱草丛。
医生走后,罗伊因为酷热难耐,恳请警察开启空调却无人理睬,待他走出屋子才发现,周围除掉一台监视仪早就空无一人了,原来所谓的“医院”不过是某座大厦顶层的一间空置的房间,所有这一切不过是他的搭档弗兰克布下的一个局,目的自然就是罗伊的密码,至于安吉拉,这个莫须有的“女儿”自然也是整场戏中的一个棋子,于是,罗伊变成了身无分文的穷光蛋,那些原本不属于他的,钱、女儿、伪装的友情,统统又离开了他。
这原本是一个巨大的骗局,虽然是既被骗钱又被骗情,却看不到被骗后通常会有的咬牙切齿与痛不欲生的悲伤。这倒应了中国古代的两句经典古语:“螳螂捕蝉黄雀在后”以及“不义之财不可取”,同时还要得益于罗伊的精神强迫性病症带来的喜剧效果以及镜头定格与切割在画面上形成轻快的节奏,结果反而成就了皆大欢喜的结局。

从影片中走出来,让我们回顾一下自己的人生,又有多少人能够真正得到最有价值的财富呢?我们总是追求名利,追求虚荣和富有,可是往往忽略的是能使我们内心的安逸的真情。当我们的灵魂被世俗的目标所麻痹,金钱闪耀的光芒背后,是我们悔之不及的空壳。只有当我们真正找到了爱,真正找到了人生中最重要的财富,我们的弱点也不再是弱点,人不会再被击倒,而是能坦然的面对生命中的一切,这是真正的强悍。罗伊被骗后的生活走上了正轨,因为他和他“女儿”生活过的时光才是他人生中最宝贵的财富。
我们也应该试图为自己找到一些真正宝贵的财富,在我们遇到冲击的时候,有一个可以靠岸的港湾停泊劳累的心灵。
