教学内容:人教版《英语》必修3 Unit 5 Canada---“The True North” (A trip on “the true north” ) Vocabulary Learning 课 型:词汇课

教学对象:琼海嘉积中学高一学生 授课时长:40分钟

教学内容分析及处理:

词汇是语言知识的一个重要组成部分,是学生能力发展的基础,正如语言学家David Wilkins指出“没有词汇,根本不能交流思想。”(Without vocabulary nothing can be conveyed.)词汇是一切的基础,词汇的重要性人人皆知。课堂上如何把“苦背单词”变成“乐学单词”是老师教学的一大挑战。一堂课不停反复出现同样的词汇才会在学生头脑中留下印象。

本单元的中心话题是加拿大---李戴玉等人在加拿大的旅游经历,初步了解加拿大的一些基本信息,包括地理环境,各大城市特点以及人文活动等。旅游日记中会出现大量的地名,所见所闻旅行类词汇。为了为阅读扫除阅读障碍,本堂词汇课根据P.36的练习,以个人旅行日志小短文语境把精读课文中的词汇一一展出学习。通过语境,看图,读句子,英译英,前后缀串联,猜词游戏,小写作等活动,听说读写一步步重现词汇加深印象。要求学生眼到,手到,嘴到,心到全身心畅游在词汇课堂里。最后听过看flash动画,个人的琼海小日记,引领学生小组讨论运用所学词汇来模仿写出个人的旅行日志,达到学以致用的目的。 Teaching aims:教学目标 Knowledge aims

Guide the Ss to focus on today’s topic-Vocabulary Learning T: Look, where were the leaders?

Yes, in Boao, Qionghai, you must feel very proud. Over the Boao Asian Forum, English is used to communicate among the leaders. English is really important, right? A famous linguist once said, “ without vocabulary, nothing can be communicated”. Do you agree?

Then, without travelling, life will be……? (boring/ meaningless/ colorless) So let’s start a vocabulary journey. Are you ready for our trip?

Where are we going? Look at the picture, where was I? (maple country--Canada) How did I travel around Canada? How about my trip route?

How much do you know about Canada? A little quiz.

(New words: maple, rather than, eastward, quiz, Ottawa, Prime Minister, beaver, scenery: the Rocky Mountains)

Step 2 Word Presentation --My travelling diary

T: Going eastward, what did I see? Listen to my diary, and pay attention to the red words and guess their meanings.

Boys and girls, let me chat about my trip in Canada. I didn’t take much baggage there, only one small bag. Canada lies in the North American continent, and it is surrounded by Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean, measuring 9.8 million km2. Most Canadian urban cities lie within several kilometers of the USA border. On the way I managed to catch sight of many animals, such as beavers, grizzly bears and an eagle.

Canada’s scenery is so beautiful, especially the Rocky mountains.

Canada is also a multicultural country, where live many different races. Canadians have a gift for mixing their cultures with others. I love Canada, and I hope to settle down there when I am retired.

1. Learn new words by looking at pictures, one by one. (chat, baggage, continent, surround; measure, urban, harbor, eagle)

2. Observe multicultural, multinational to conclude: prefix multi- (un-; im-; dis-) Observe eastward, upward, backward to conclude: suffix –ward (-ly; -tion - ness) 3. Learn phrases’ meaning by explanation and translate sentences with the phrases. e.g. I managed to learn some Japanese in college.

e.g. On my way here I caught sight of one handsome boy. e.g. You have a gift for learning English. e.g. I want to settle down in Canada.

4. Turn to p.98 and listen to words and expressions. 5. Read after the teacher, each word twice.

Step 3 Word Practice-- Games playing

1. Play a little music to arise students’ excitement. 2. Tell two games between boys and girls.

Game1: Team competition : boys PK girls

First, rules must be confirmed clearly. Two governors are found to track games

(e.g. on or onto a plane, a train or a ship; we can say :aboard)

Game 2: Pair work: One describe, one guess in 90 seconds. 1 minute to discuss and perform among best partners

3. In the end, count points and announce winners.

Step 4 Word production--- A trip to _______ (choose a place) 1. After competition, relax for a while and enjoy some flash scenery. Have you ever been to one of these places?

2. Show flash pictures about Qionghai and share a brief trip to Qionghai by using the new words.
